Kyrgyzstan

Kyrgyzstan was the first country in Central Asia to adopt the law “on microfinance organizations” under which MFIs can determine their own size of loans and interest rates as well as commission rates. As of September 2020, there were 130 microfinance institutions and 95 credit unions. However, the poverty rate at national poverty line was at 25.3%. In 2022 LOLC entered Kyrgyzstan to serve this cohort.

ABN Microfinance Limited

ABN Microfinance was incorporated as a credit union in 1998 and was recognized as a microfinance company in 2014. LOLC acquired controlling stake in ABN in 2022. The company currently offers four main product types, consumer loans, business loans, agriculture loans, and quick loans.
